Care List and Supplies
We feed Nutra Nuggets Lamb and Rice. Available at Fred Meyers and Costco. Any good lamb and rice puppy food until 6 months old. Then a high performance lamb and rice for adults. Always leave their food out, as they are nibblers. Always take the pup to the place you want them to go to the bathroom before taking them indoors when you arrive home. They will use gravel better than grass or barkchips. They are 100% trained here to go outside on pea gravel. you can find a bag at Home Depot or any larger home store. Most people say that they maybe have one or two accidents in the house, usually in confusion. A lot of people hang a small bell by a ribbon on the door knob that they will go out to do their business. Hit their paw on it every time you take them outside and very soon they will do that to let you know they are ready to go out. Don’t be alarmed if they have a small appetite or loose stool for the first 2 days. A pillow for the pups bed works best. We prefer the pillow bed. One in a main room and one in a bedroom. When they are resting just tell them to go lay down on your pillow. The only times we hear of problems is when people try to leave them away from the main hub of the family, for example, behind a fence. They will usually will rebel and do something bad to tell you to let them follow you around. I always tell new owners to spend the first 2 days with the new pup showing them the things you want them to do, what is ok to do, and what is not. Poodles are very smart and will take advantage if you do not show them that you are the boss so that they do what you want. usually a couple of no’s is all it takes. If they do not respond use a spray water bottle and spray them on the nose. if they lick or use their teeth, grab their nose, hold it and say no. Pups will have up to date shots and worming. they may need more and that will be on the medical record I send with them when picked up. Please take a fecal sample when going to the vet. All pups have been wormed here but it isn’t always enough. It is not dangerous unless they are let go for a long time. Please keep your dogs ear hairs plucked and clean the canal with ear cleaner. We suggest Nolva-Cleanse by Fort Dodge or a mixture of 1/3 alcohol, 1/3 distilled water, 1/3 vinegar use gauze or a Q-tip. Do not let water get in them when bathing. Please do NOT apply any flea treatments to your poodle. They do not get fleas and will possibly have a skin reaction if a topical flea treatment is used. Please feel free to ask any other questions you may have.
